Not Again! #1B

Dupont brought jobs, benefits, a retirement plan and a degree of prosperity to a generation or two of Kanawha Valley West Virginians.  It also brought polluted air and water.

During World War II, Dupont provided chemicals that were vital to the war effort.  Dobe volunteered early in the war.  Since he was blind in one eye, he was ineligible for service.  He got around this by using his left eye for both the right and left eye chart readings.  Then before his ship date came, he broke his leg at work–twice and that was that.  Still, like many other young 4Fs, he faced accusations of shirking his duty for not fighting.

This strip introduces Margaret Gillespie Glass who grew up at Bullpush Hollow near Cannelton and Smithers.
