The Red and Black #22B
Chronologically, this story begins on the morning of the same day as Beditme Story #10A, before the Cooper family moved to Bullpush. As described in that arc, the girls would have heard the shooting, and Tom, John, and Clad would have been miners at Boomer at the time.
That flag raises a question: Where and how did a group of starving miners obtain a giant anarchist flag emblazoned with Victory or Death in gold letters? It feels that it shows up almost like Fezzik’s holocaust cloak–a handwave and there it is.
We know how they probably got the guns–and we’ll get to that later. But the flag? That seems like an extravagance. Mail order anarchist flags were probably a thing. The gold lettering sure wasn’t standard and getting it mailed to the company store was definitely out.
Maybe somebody sewed? Even then, the material wouldn’t have been cheap. At any rate, the Italian miners of Boomer were ready to make a point.
